Friends of the Garvaghy Road - North of IRELANDThe Belfast branch of the Friends of the Garvaghy Road ties in with regional groups based in Derry, Fermanagh
and Co. Armagh. The Friends groups formed spontaneously after the events of 1996 and 1997 when individuals
and community groups came together to voice their anger at the treatment of the Portadown nationalists and
other besieged residents across the 6 Counties. With time the strength and sphere of activities of the group has
grown. Lobbying and raising awareness in the local communities is only one of the activities carried out by the
group. The network also provides active support, for example by organising activities for youth and helping with
community projects.
Friends of the Garvaghy Road - LONDON Friends-London was launched May 7, 1999 and works to raise awareness in England about the ongoing situation in Portadown by lobbying parliament, holding pickets and adding to the pressure on the British government to hold proper, independent inquiries into the police handling of Robert Hamill's murder and into the circumstances surrounding the killing of Rosemary Nelson. For information on events in England and how you can contribute to this effort, contact Friends of the Garvaghy Road-London: FRIENDS OF THE GARVAGHY ROAD LONDON
Friends of the Garvaghy Road - DUBLIN The Dublin Friends of the Garvaghy Road has organised a series of high level mobilisations in the streets of
the Irish Capital to raise public awareness about the plight of the besieged residents. The group has also
organised a number of conferences to inform local community groups about what they can do to help and
actively lobbied members of the Dáil and European Members of Parliament.
