A Statement from the Garvaghy Road Residents Coalition
Breandan Mac Cionnaith, spokesperson for the Garvaghy Road Residents Coalition, has revealed that the Coalition’s legal advisor has today written to the Attorney General, requesting him to apply for an injunction restraining the officers of the Portadown LOL District Number 1 and any other known organisers of the Drumcree Parade from acting in breach of the conditions imposed by the Parades Commission in respect of the parade.
In the event of the Attorney General failing to apply, the Coalition has requested permission for their legal representative to apply for the restraining injunction in the Attorney General’s name.
In view of the gravity and urgency of the situation, the Coalition’s legal representative has requested a reply expeditiously. It has been emphasised to the Attorney General that every individual involved in the Orange siege of the Garvaghy Road are in breach of the law and involved in daily criminality.
In the event of the Attorney General’s failure to apply for an injunction or to give permission for our legal representative to apply in his name, the Coalition have instructed their legal representative to pursue all legal avenues to have the present siege situation of the Garvaghy Road lifted immediately.
