STATEMENT DISTRIBUTED BY THE GRAND ORANGE LODGE OF IRELAND TO VARIOUS BUSINESSES AND BUSINESS-PEOPLE THROUGHOUT THE SIX COUNTIES

04.July.1998

Dear Friend,

We expect over the next few days and weeks our parades will again be the focus of attack by those in the community who show intolerance and hostility towards Orange traditions and culture. We believe that if a resolute stand is not taken against this discrimination and ethnic harassment, this campaign by republicans will widen and develop against many other areas of our Protestant Reformed heritage and British identity.

We would therefore ask for your support so that we can stand together for the promotion of civil and religious liberty for all and special privileges for none. We would advise all who support the aims and ideals of our Institution that we intend to mount a peaceful and dignified campaign to counter any attempts to infringe our civil rights. We will not bee associated with anyone who resorts to violence, as this would only harm our cause.

There will be clear directions given shortly as to how you can meaningfully assist us. Do not listen to the propaganda or rumors. Maintain regular contact with leading members of the Orange institution, who will keep you updated with developments.

Thanking you for your support in the past.
